Global Microfinance Case Competition (GMCC) 2022
2022 GMCC RECAP
Global Microfinance Case Competition 2022 was the biggest and most successful iteration of GMCC to date. Following two years of conducting the GMCC virtually, 2022 saw the reintroduction of a dual delivery format with participants signing up from universities near and far.
This year, we had over 1300 participants from 14 universities globally, making our mark as one of the largest student-run case competitions in the world. Our case client Ekphattana Microfinance Institution (EMI), the largest microfinance institution in Laos, returned for the second year running to provide students with another challenging yet meaningful case study. With the increasing prevalence and importance of green finance initiatives, students were tasked with answering the question of what investment opportunities are available for EMI, and how can EMI offer green financing loan products to encourage positive impacts on the environment. For students, this meant coming up with a solution that was both creative and practical, with great emphasis placed on the feasibility and ease of implementation of their strategies.
All teams should be commended for submitting high quality, innovative, and comprehensive solutions which were incredibly thought provoking to read through during our screening process. We hope that through participating in the GMCC, students now have a greater understanding of microfinance and green financing, and take great pride in helping EMI transition to a greener future.
Thank you to our sponsors Kearney, Alta, McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, and Inaam for their continued support of MMI and the GMCC.
