Is it right to invest ethically?

Ethical investing is on everybody’s lips. Consumers and investors alike expect ethics from corporations; businesses, by-and-large, are conforming to this. But, can we really prescribe ethics to the market when decisions surrounding the ethics of businesses are left to only those with the money to influence the corporation? Is the market for investing based on aristocracy rather than democracy?
