Global Microfinance Case Competition (GMCC) 2018

The Global Microfinance Case Competition (GMCC) is an international case competition held annually by the Melbourne Microfinance Initiative. Hosted for its sixth year in 2018, participants from universities all over Australia and New Zealand presented their proposed solutions - more innovative than ever - to panels of judges from both academia and NGOs.

This event gave students the opportunity to apply their analytical and business acumen, in order to create tangible solutions to alleviate poverty. One highlighted characteristic that continuously sets GMCC apart from other case competitions is the fact that participants have the chance to try their hand at solving real-life cases faced by an actual NGO MMI is partnering with.

Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc. (JVOFI) in the Philippines provided the 2018 GMCC case. After 2 weeks of intense competition from over 500 participants across Australia and New Zealand, the top 6 teams went head to head to compete for the title of 2018 GMCC Champions.

The winning team came from Auckland University, winning a $1000 cash grand prize, boardroom dinner with Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and a guaranteed interview with A.T. Kearney for their summer internship program.
